Unit of Measure features include the following changes:
Unit of Measure fields are included the Item Card and can be assigned Abbreviations ("cs", "pk") and Counts (144, 12) for the Item.
Unit of Measure fields on the Item Card can be updated manually, using Imports, or using Searches (clicking the Apply button to change many at once).
Transactions include Units fields on the first tab (Quote, Order, Invoice, PO, and Bill) only. Other tabs do not include Units field, so you can see the regular Qty and Unit Price in comparison to Qty On Hand or Unit Cost.
Transactions automatically set new Line Item's Units to Each ("ea").
Typing a new Unit of Measure ("cs") will use the Item's Count (144) and update the UoM Price ($6.95 x 144 = $1000.80).
Units Prefs control whether you see Units for Qty's on transactions including Quote, Order, Invoice, PO, and Bill.

Big Business 11.32 adds Advanced Item Prefs.
Big Business 11.16 updates Units' column widths.
Big Business includes Fields on Imports for Units of Measure:
UoM Abbrev. - abbreviation for unit of measure
UoM Count - count for unit of measure
UoM Qty - quantity for unit of measure
UoM Price - price for unit of measure
This Solution describes using Units on Imports. (7154)
When you are mapping an import, like an Order Import, and you have Units of Measure features enabled, you will have additional Fields for import including:
UoM Abbrev. - abbreviation for unit of measure
UoM Count - count for unit of measure
UoM Qty - quantity for unit of measure
UoM Price - price for unit of measure
These work the same as the Fields on an Order. If you map data like CS, for case, to UoM Abbrev., the import will look for a matching entry on the item, like Soda Pop, to see if it comes in a case (CS) and if it does, fill in the Count (24/case). If you also map data like 1 for UoM Qty, this will order 1 CS, which is 24 Soda Pops.
If a customer is sending you the data and they want a 6-pack of Soda Pop, they may have a different Abbreviation than yours. They may send PK which standard for pack, but suppose you use 6P for six pack and 12P for twelve pack. In this case, you can import UoM Count and Big Business will find the match. If they send 1, PK, (of) 6 and you import 1 to UoM Qty and 6 to UoM Count, this will order 1 6P, which is 6 Soda Pops.
To simplify this for you customer, you can also add Part Numbers (SodaPop-24) that automatically set the UoM Count (24) so they can order 1 of Part Number, SodaPop-24, and this will order 1 CS, which is 24 Soda Pops. Part Numbers can also set their Price.
Smart Units will translate from your base unit to optimized Units that you sell. If you sell sodas, you might only offer cases (CS, 24 per) and packs (PK, 6 per) only. Enter an Order for 40 each (EA, 1 per) and Big Business will automatically replace this with:
1 CS
3 PK
That's 42. And now you're wondering, What if?
If you want to skip conversion, add EA (1) as a Unit for this Item and it will not be replaced.
If you want exact conversion add a different Unit for singles (Can, 1x, PCS for 1 per). Contact support@bigbusiness.com for setup help.

Smart Units fills in the Units that you sell, automatically.
When you set up Unit of Measure, enter your base unit (EA, 1 per). Then on an Item enter Units sold (CS, PK) and their Qty's (24, 6).
You can then enter Units sold, such as 3 CS, which Smart Units will ignore. Or enter base units that are not sold (40 EA) and Smart Units will convert (1 CS, 3 PK).
To turn on Smart Units:
1. Go to the Company card to the Advanced tab.
2. Click the checkbox for Enable Smart Units.
3. Click OK to save changes.
You must restart Big Business for this change to take effect.
This Solution provides quick step-by-step instructions for creating a new Form that displays Units of Measure.
Go to Forms, select the form you want to edit, and click OK.
Go to the small File menu and choose Save As (My Quote with Units).
Double-click a Field like Qty and change to UoM Qty (Unit of Measure Qty).
To create a new Field it is easiest to click on an existing Field and Duplicate (Ctrl-D, or Edit, Duplicate). This keeps the font and sizing the same.
If you duplicate Qty and want it to be Units (UoM Abbrev.), you must erase the Format (##,###,###.00 -> [blank]). You could Duplicate the Comment and resize (see below).
To move a Field type an Arrow Key, or Shift-Arrow-Key to move 10 spaces. To resize a Field type Ctrl-Arrow-Key where ctrl-right/down makes it longer and ctrl-up/left makes it shorter.
To test, Save the form and go to the place it's used (eg Quote tool) to print.
To Save, close the window and say YES to save changes. This will save all edits to your new form (MyQuote-UoM).
