Chapter 75 Barcodes
Big Business has options for using Barcodes, including:
• matching preprinted Barcodes like UPC's
• printing Barcodes on built-in forms
• printing Barcodes on Custom Forms
• printing Barcodes labels for incoming Bills
• printing Barcodes labels for Items on hand
Barcodes Button
Barcode Button appears on Item card for easy entry of barcodes and units for lookups.
Barcodes Search
Barcodes Search help you manage barcodes you use for looking up items by scanning.
Barcodes might include any UPC's that are preprinted on products you buy and sell. If you break down, re-package, or split items you may have barcodes for each Unit.
You may also have different barcodes for the same item from different sources. Barcodes Search helps you review and manage these separately from Part Numbers.
Barcodes Unit Count
Barcodes Unit Count lets you set the number of items in a barcoded package. This works with Units of Measure to select the correct Units for scanned items like cases.
Barcodes Settings
Barcodes Settings help automate adding scanned items to a transaction, such as a Sales Order or Invoice. You can program the barcode scanner to send a preamble, and Big Business will add a Line Item. There are also setting to print barcodes on select transactions.
This Solution provides a description of the Barcode Settings.

Big Business includes Bar Code Settings so that Big Business can automatically add a scanned item to a Quote, Sales Order, or Invoice.
The Bar Code Settings tool is located on the System toolbar and has two settings:
1. Preamble - this is a character that you program the bar code scanner to send before any scanned data so that Big Business knows that you have scanned an item and need the cursor in the item entry area. To use the character pictured, ^, you would refer to the documentation for the scanner to add ^ as a preamble. If you are using a standardized format such as UPC-A that includes the preamble or "system character," *, you would change the contents of the Preamble field in Big Business to *.
2. Item Field - this is the field that receives the scanned information, where Big Business should insert the scanned code to look up the item. If you are using Alternate Item Codes for scannable UPCs, for example, you would set the Item Field to Item Code to use Alternate Item Codes. If you have entered or imported codes into Description1 or Description2, you would choose the field that contains this scannable code.

Barcode on Sales Order
Barcode on Sales Order Line Items
Barcode on Invoice
Barcode on Purchase Order
Barcode on Price Labels
Barcodes for Orders and Invoices
Big Business has Barcode Settings for printing barcodes on:
• Sales Order
• Invoice
• Purchase Order
Big Business will print a barcode of the transaction number, which can be scanned by UPS, FedEx, or another system, to ensure accuracy.

To print a Barcode on Sales Order:
1. Go to the Maintenance toolbar
2. Click on Barcode Settings
3. Click on Barcode On Sales Order checkbox
4. Click OK to save changes
5. Restart Big Business (Client)
Big Business will print a Barcode of the Sales Order Number on Built-In Plain Paper forms.
To include the Barcode on a Custom Form:
1. Edit the custom form
2. Add a Variable named vBarcodePict
3. Set the Display Format to "Scaled to fit"
Barcodes Custom Forms
Big Business Custom Forms can use Variables to display your Company Name or Logo and Barcodes when printing.

To Add a Variable to a Custom Form:
1. Open your Custom Form, or New template
2. Select the Variable tool (box with an "x") on the toolbar
3. Draw a rectangle on your form
4. Type in a Variable Name ("vCoLogo" or "vBarcodePict")
5. Select a Display Format ("Scaled to Fit (Proportional)")
6. Choose Page Setup from the Form's File menu and OK
7. Choose Save in the Form's File menu
To (test) print a Custom Form:
1. Go the appropriate tool (open an Invoice to print an Invoice form)
2. Click Print (or Save a new Invoice with automatic printing enabled)
3. Select the Custom Form (and select/de-select others)
4. Click OK to print
vCoLogo is the name of Variable used on built-in forms that automatically displays Company Name and Address or Printed Forms Artwork from the Company Card.
vBarcodePict is the name of Variable used on built-in forms for printing a barcode.
If Variable Name is correct, Display Format will offer image handling choices, such as Scaled to Fit (Proportional) and options for centered and truncated (chopped off which is not barcode-friendly).
Barcodes Labels
Big Business has the option for Barcodes to be included on Price Labels.
To enable:
1. Go to the System toolbar to Barcode Settings
2. Click the checkbox for, Barcodes for Price Labels
3. Click OK to save the settings
4. Quit and restart Big Business Client
Barcodes Order Line Items
Big Business includes an option for Barcodes for Sales Order Line Items.
To enable:
1. Go to the System toolbar to Barcode Settings
2. Click the checkbox for, Barcodes for Sales Order Line Items
3. Click OK to save the settings
4. Quit and restart Big Business Client
Barcodes Bills
Barcodes can be printed from Bills for incoming items in the quantites listed on a Bill.
Barcodes Prices
Barcodes help you enter items, which then load their correct pricing based on settings.
Part Numbers, on the other hand, can include a Customer Price or Vendor Cost to use, but only work with their assigned Customer or Vendor and correct settings to activate.
Barcodes are a fast and accurate way to add items without typing or entering yourself.
