TaxJar Response

Big Business uses the Response from TaxJar to record tax details and generate reporting with names of States, Counties, Cities, and Special Districts, along with Rates and Amounts.

  Order References

Order References are extra fields you can import with Orders, namely:
• Ref Order Number
• Ref Order Tax
• Ref Order Total
• Ref Item Tax
• Ref Item Tax Code

These entries are for reference and may or may not be used to replace calculated results. You might use Ref Order Number to have the order number from your web store to put on Notifications.

To enable Order Refs:
1. Go to the Company Card to the Advanced tab.
2. Click the checkbox for Enable Order References.
3. Click OK to save changes.


  TaxJar Categories

TaxJar maintains a list of product categories for items that are exempt or taxed a reduced rates in some jusrisdictions. With this option, you can assign a Code and have it automatically applied. For example, Food & Grocery has the code 40030 and may be exempt from State tax in some states.

  Tax Code

Tax Code is a new field on Item card, History tab, used to assign a Code for sales tax lookup. Different systems have different code formats so this is simply a text box.

  Note Checking

Note Checking is being Retired. To continue to use this feature you would need to turn it on in Company, Prefs. Leave it Off for instant, Instant On, though.

Big Business Notes let users send messages to other users on the system and attach Big Business entries or documents. Each user has preferences, in My Prefs, for how often to check for new Notes. If the Users' preferences are set to Don't Check, they will only be notified of new Notes when they Sign In to Big Business.

Big Business has a new setting to check for new Notes, Every Minute.

To choose this new setting:
1. Sign In to Big Business
2. Go to the Notes toolbar
3. Open the Notes Prefs at the end of the Notes toolbar
4. Under Check for New Notes, choose Every Minute
5. Click the OK button to save changes.


  Instant On

Instant On allows Big Business Client to Sleep. Shut your laptop or leave your computer set to sleep and when it wakes on the same network, Big Business Client will resume working instantly. (7131)

Big Business includes built-in Database software, which means:
• no additional purchase
• no additional installation
• no additional setup or configuration
You simply install Big Business and start it.

For one user only, there is one piece of software. For multiple users, there are two pieces of software:
• Server goes on one computer and manages your Data File
• Client goes on all computers you want to connect
For most Updates you only need to update your Server software.

The following Updates change the Database, so you might update Clients, too:
• Big Business 13.45 includes an update to include latest fixes
• Big Business 13.06 includes an update to Security Internals
• Big Business 13.03 includes an update for macOS Big Sur compatibility
Updating Clients is not required but is recommended for the latest security and compatibility.

  Security Internals

Big Business includes Security Internals to automatically encrypt all connections. When Updates to the Built-In Database change the Security Internals, you can update Clients when you update Server and get better security.

  Geekbench Results

Geekbench publishes results so you can see where your Mac stacks up, performance-wise. This may help if you comparing a choice like Intel i5, i7, and i9.

For entertainment, when we got a new Mac desktop with an Intel Xeon and a new Mac laptop with Apple's M1, we raced them by running Geekbench 4, which must run in Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon. The laptop won, 5654 to 5395.
