Tax Exempt

Tax Exempt options help you waive sales tax for customers who are certified exempt. These override automatic calculations and help to track certification and exempt status.

Automatic calculations, using a Tax Status or service like TaxJar, may determine that no sales tax is collected because a transaction is out-of-state or items are non-taxable.

Tax Exempt applies to taxable transactions where tax is calculated and would normally be collected, but overrides so no sales tax is collected for the customer who is exempt.

  Exemption Type

Exemption Type lets you record the reason the customer is exempt from Sales Tax.

Exemption Types for TaxJar are Wholesale, Government, Other, and Non-Exempt.

  Resale Number

Resale Number lets you record a reseller certificate provided by an exempt wholesaler.

  Exempt Expiry

Exempt Expiry is a date you can fill in when you need to follow up with the customer.

Resellers who provide a resale certificate for their states may provide a date of expiry. BigBusiness includes Exempt Expiry and the report for Customers by Exempt Expiry.

  Customers by Exempt Expiry

Customers by Exempt Expiry shows you customers with exemption expiration dates.

This chapter shows settings for tax exempt customers like Resale Number and Expiry. This reports lists these settings for easy review, listing Customers by Exempt Expiry.

  Chapter 177 Tax Exempt

Tax Exempt options help you waive sales tax for customers who are certified exempt. These override automatic calculations and help to track certification and exempt status.

Automatic calculations, using a Tax Status or service like TaxJar, may determine that no sales tax is collected because a transaction is out-of-state or items are non-taxable.

Tax Exempt applies to taxable transactions where tax is calculated and would normally be collected, but overrides so no sales tax is collected for the customer who is exempt.

  Customer Tax Settings

Tax Settings on the Customer card, History tab, help you automate sales tax collection.

Depending on your needs, you might use only Tax Status to record local rates for your combined report of one state, or you may need TaxJar to help calculate in many states.

Settings include Tax Status, Resale Number, a Tax Exempt checkbox, Exemption Type, Exempt States, and Exempt Expiry with a checkbox on top for No Expiry.

  Next Solution

Next is the button at the bottom of this Solutions entry that takes you to the Next one.

Solutions includes documentation of BigBusiness ERP in a wide range of formats. New entries are brief with a clear explanation of one function and fitting into a small chapter.

Next takes you to the next page of the chapter. Next also takes you from last to first. Click an [i] information button in BigBusiness for info, then click Next for more info.

  Solutions Carousel

Solutions are these entries in online help, which are continually organized in chapters.

Ideally, you would click an Info [i] button in BigBusiness to open one and read about. For context, you should find a Chapter button, and a Next button to show you more.

Carousel is the construct you see everywhere to flip through pages, photos, or blurbs. Its magic is that it goes around. Start mid-chapter and keep going till you come around.

  Database Version

BigBusiness updates the built-in database it uses for security and fixes when available.

Within a major version like Big Business 14 this might happen a few times in Updates. Usually these do not require changing Clients, just Server, unless the "fix" is in Clients.

On the other hand, a new major version like BigBusiness 15 is a new database entirely. An Upgrade entails replacing all Clients, which may only work with newest Systems.

  Locked Alert

Locked Alert has been added to Mark, Closed to let you know some orders are locked.

While an Order is open on someone's screen, it is locked from being marked as Closed. To find out whose, double-click to open the order then click on the Locked icon to see.

  Using Inactive

Inactive has a new system setting so it is enabled automatically. It is on automatically.

Prior to this change, Inactive was a feature set you would enable when you were ready. These setttings still work perfectly; just the System Setting has changed to be enabled.

Inactive shows the Inactive checkbox, lets you Add(+) the Inactive column in Searches, click to toggle, requires Inactive privilege on Employee Access, or can be Disabled, too.

  Chapter 345 Using Inactive

Click Inactive on a Customer or Item or other record to remove it from List and Search.
This chapter provides a quick overview of the feature to help you clean and de-clutter.

Add(+) the Inactive column to Searches, and search again, to show the inactive records.
Set Inactive Access on an Employee to allow to change Inactive on records or Searches.

Refer to other chapters for additional controls and details about Items, Accounts, etc..
