Big Business includes the option to automatically Allocate Components for Built Items when a Built Item is placed on a Sales Order and does not have a sufficient Quantity on Hand.
This is a key feature of MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) systems giving immediate visibility across a multi-level BOM (Bill of Materials) of demand for an infinite number of subassemblies (built components) or raw materials (purchased components).
Turning On (or Off) Allocate Builds recalculates Allocated Quantities for all inventoried Items. (5862)
Big Business includes the option to automatically Allocate Components for Built Items when a Built Item is placed on a Sales Order and does not have a sufficient Quantity on Hand.
To Allocate Builds:
1. Wait for an opportune time when there is minimal activity.
2. Open the Item Prefs at the end of the Item Toolbar.
3. Click the checkbox to Allocate Builds.
4. Click Continue to recalculate all inventoried Items' Allocated Quantities.
Once enabled, the Allocate Build function will automatically allocate the components of a Built Item when needed. If, for example, you enter an order for one bicycle, and have none on hand, Big Business will allocate one frame, two wheels, and so on. Likewise all subassemblies will be automatically allocated, so if there are no wheels on hand, Big Business will allocate two rims, two tires, two dozen spokes, etc..
Allocations automatically update the Qty Needed, which triggers the Automatic Purchase Order function. Once you enable the Allocate Builds function, you may want to update your workflow. The Buy for Builds Report, for example, may no longer be useful, but the Q&A, "Which Vendors do I need to purchase Items from?" should be more useful than ever.
If for any reason you need to disable the Allocate Builds function, repeat the steps above, unchecking the Allocate Builds checkbox, and all Allocations will be restored to their original calculations.
